Local
Languages:
The local
Aboriginal language should be taught in schools
all over Australia.
There are more than
200 Australian Indigenous languages. Less than 20 languages are strong, and
even these are endangered. The others have been destroyed.
In recent
years, there has been an increase in the teaching of Indigenous languages in
government, Catholic & independent schools. In 2005, when 133 languages
were taught in schools, 45 were Indigenous languages. So why should we stop
now?.
Melbourne do
not seem to be doing much about the indigenous work even though they have indigenous
people living there.
How dare we
cover up a language and culture that we have no authority over. Australians
need to respect, and see the bigger picture when it comes to this great land.
They were here first and their here now and we must respect and not sweep the indigenous
culture under the rug.
Australians
need to know about their own country’s history as if we do not generations to
come will start asking questions that we will not have the answer too. In
schools teachers teach other languages such as Italian so why not our own.
